Feel At Home
Connecting Senior Communities Through Technology
I'm especially proud of this project! We were given a task to prototype an app idea that benefits the social good. With limited guidance, my team and I relied on personal experience and each other's strengths to develop an app idea we are really proud of: Feel At Home.
Feel At Home is an application designed with connecting senior citizen communities in mind. We interviewed our target demographic of individuals living in a 55+ community on what a community connection app would mean for them. During those interviews, we heard and discovered that shallow flows, a friendly touchable interface, and ways to know what was happening "live" was important to them.
My Team's Process and Findings
-
#1: Interview our target audience of 55+ community members. We developed our user persona, user journey, and palette based on the wants and needs of our target demographic. Something that surprised us: they love playing games on their tablets and phones!
-
#2: Developing a minimum viable prototype (MVP) to test. We created a lot of sketches for our app ideas, but landed on using a digital minimum viable prototype to test with.
-
#3: After feedback from testers, we discovered there was a disconnect between the calendar, event, and task flows. Our main developer, Miguel, created confirmation screens to further reinforce users' needs for feedback.
-
#4: Users wants to feel connected and like they had a direct line to someone who could help if an emergency arose. We developed a 911 option that reacted differently than simple tap actions - a slider 911 button that could be easily manipulated, but cancelled if accidentally triggered.
Why This Project Matters to Me
I loved working on this project with my groupmates, Miguel and Maria. We spent a lot of time ensuring our design was friendly, welcoming, but also easy to use on the smallest devices. My main focus was content strategy and branding for this project, including developing and finalizing the logo.
I love that my team created a project that connects senior citizens with their neighbors for better mental health!
