Terra Firma

A Conservation Brand

Terra Firma is a fantasy brand of my own design. As a project for a graphic design challenge, we were tasked to use hand-drawn sketching processes to create a brand of an imaginary organization. I wanted to create a conservation brand, and 50 sketches later, I feel I was able to design a clean, contemporary logo that represented a conservation nonprofit.

My Process and Insights

  1. #1: Sketching is hard for me! However, going through this hand-drawn process stretched my creative brainstorming, as well as my artistry. I also utilized word cloud brainstorming to develop a brand identity that I wanted to pursue.

  2. #2: The amount of time just "playing" was also a revelation. From my nonprofit world perspective, scarcity is always a pressure. There's no budget, time, or staffing to accomplish everything one wants to do. Playtime seemed like a luxury, and I found it an important step to my creative process.

  3. #3: I feel my design is successful, elegant, and speaks to the world of conservancy.

Why This Project Matters to Me

Conservation is close to my heart. Working in animal welfare for over a decade, I wasn't too far from the conservation world: both flora and fauna. I was proud of this design and how it represented my creative brainstorming through the logo design process.
